About Accu-Mold Plastics
Company History
In 1972, Jack L. Strohecker had a vision: to provide high-quality, precision injection molds and components to the electronics industry. Along with his wife Mary Lou, Jack transformed this dream into reality by founding Accu-Mold & Tool Company from the basement of their home in Halifax, PA. What began as a small tool and die operation soon captured the attention of a local electronics manufacturer, impressed by their dedication to craftsmanship and precision mold building. This early partnership set the stage for a series of successes that would define the company's future.
Accu-Mold quickly grew beyond its modest beginnings. As word of their expertise spread, major companies like American Catheter Company and Hamilton Watch became clients, marking the company’s entry into new markets. This steady growth fueled Jack's ambition to take the business one step further—moving from solely designing molds to producing the molded components themselves. In 1973, Accu-Mold acquired its first automatic injection molding machine, evolving into a full-service provider of custom injection-molded products.
The decision to expand proved pivotal. Accu-Mold's ability to offer in-house mold design, tooling, and injection molding positioned it as a leader in the field. By the late 1970s and early 1980s, the company had earned the trust of several groundbreaking medical disposable companies. At the same time, Accu-Mold became a vital partner to several start-ups, helping them compete against larger, established competitors with high-quality molds and products.
By 1985, Accu-Mold’s success warranted significant expansion. The company constructed a 9,000-square-foot facility to house its growing operations, adding numerous injection molding machines and upgrading its design and tooling departments with state-of-the-art CNC machining and EDM capabilities. Their injection molding capacity grew to accommodate shot sizes ranging from 1 to 9.6 ounces, with equipment offering clamping forces from 24 to 125 tons.
However, on December 1, 2006, disaster struck. An F-1 tornado tore through Halifax, devastating the town and obliterating Accu-Mold’s facility. Despite the overwhelming destruction, the company's management acted swiftly, orchestrating a remarkable recovery that saw operations resume within just eight days. The new facility that emerged from the rubble was stronger and more advanced, equipped with a Clean Room and ready to meet the exacting standards of modern industries.
Today, Accu-Mold Plastics stands as a testament to resilience, innovation, and quality. From its humble beginnings to becoming a leader in precision injection molding, the company continues to honor its legacy while pushing forward, serving industries like electronics, medical disposables, and many others with unparalleled expertise and dedication.
